Salmon family papers, 1856-1973.

Deeds, mortgages, title abstracts and letters pertaining to lands in the towns of Southold and Southampton, 1856-1914, many involving Alvah M. Salmon, also William C. Salmon, Samuel Griffin, John Wickham, Jonathan H. Case, Austin Goldsmith, George P. Horton, Policarpus Quarty, and others. Also, a complete set of the piano music of composer Alvah Glover Salmon, and his 1902 passport. Other papers include an inventory of the estate of Ann Hallock Currie-Bell, and court documents and correspondence relating to her will, of which Kathryn Salmon, Leo Roon, and Rensselaer G. Terry Jr. were executors. Also correspondence of the Southold Historical Society, including applications for the position of director, 1969; and clippings and photographs of the paintings of Tom Currie-Bell.

Samuel Griffin was a lawyer, soldier and politician originally from Richmond County, Virginia. He served as a colonel in the Revolution and was wounded at the battle at Harlem Heights on October 12, 1776. He served as mayor of Williamsburg, 1779-1780 and as a member of the House of Delegates from 1787-1788. He served in Congress from 1789 to 1795. He died in New York in 1810. Ann Hallock Curie-Bell (1897-1964) was a resident of Southold, New York and a founder of the Southold Historical Society. She was married to Tom Currie-Bell (1873-1946), a painter.
